MUSIC HAS AN IMMENSE POWER TO EXPRESS OUR FEELINGS AND RAISE OUR CONSCIOUSNESS. THE INTENTION BEHIND OUR HEALING MUSIC AND YOGA PROJECT IS TO CREATE A POSITIVE, HEALING ENVIRONMENT THAT ALLOWS YOGA STUDENTS TO GO DEEPER IN THEIR PRACTICE AND IN TURN, THEIR LIVES.
THE CLASS: THE CLASS IS A SHAKTI INSPIRED FLOW, TO THE SOUNDS OF HEALING MUSIC. THE MUSIC TAKES INSPIRATION FROM ASANA, AS THE ASANAS TAKE INSPIRATION FROM THE MUSIC. WE FLOW THROUGH STANDING AND SEATED POSTURES, USING EACH INSTRUMENT AS INSPIRATION FOR MOVEMENT. WHETHER SOFTLY FLOATING WITH THE HARP, OR MOVING ENERGETICALLY TO THE GROUNDING RHYTHMS OF THE DJEMBE, THE CLASS MOVES AS ONE UNIT, FINALLY ENDING WITH YOGA NIDRA, A DEEP RELAXATION.

CHERYL DURST is a certified teacher in hatha yoga . She began her journey of yoga while living in Calgary 9 years ago. Her first teacher training was a month long intensive studying the primary series of Ashtanga yoga. From there she continued with David Swenson’s first deries teacher training, followed by 3 months in Mysore, India with Pattabhi Jois and Sharath.
Following the training in the style of Astanga Yoga, Cheryl dived deeply into an 18 month teacher training at The Yoga Centre of Burlington (Yoga Alliance Approved). This training was mainly based on the approach to asana in the style of Iyengar Yoga, and included a portion of astanga as well. The course also covered Yoga philosophy, anatomy, meditation, chakra studies and aryuveda. In 2005 Cheryl traveled once again to India and studied with the Iyengars for one month. Cheryl has also completed Restorative Yoga Teacher Training with Judith Lasater

FEEDBACK FROM A YOGA TEACHER: I found myself to be completely absorbed during the class in the music, the movement and the internal experience of practicing yoga to live music. The choreography was perfect, the flow a perfect pace that started off slowly and built to a peak. The pranayama in conjunction with the drum beat towards the end of the class was absolute magic. Brian and Cheryl have developed a wonderful formula for delving deeply into the self and I look forward to the next opportunity to practice with them. Wendy
SINCE 2007, BRIAN AND CHERYL HAVE BEEN TOURING CANADA GIVING MUSIC AND YOGA CLASSES AND PROVIDING MUSIC AT RETIREMENT HOMES, NURSING HOMES AND HOSPITALS.
“To me, doing music and yoga has been a great gift. It is a wonderful thing to fuse music and movement to create an environment of acceptance of ourselves and each other - allowing whatever arises to be expressed through sound and movement. What could be better?” Namaste, Brian
